Instructions
- Drain the tuna:
Drain 3 cans tuna very well, pressing out the liquid, then flake it into a medium bowl with a fork.
- Mix:
Add ⅓ cup mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon Dijon, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 diced celery rib, 2 tablespoons red onion, 2 tablespoons chopped pickles, 1 tablespoon dill, ¼ teaspoon kosher salt, and ¼ teaspoon black pepper and stir until combined.
- Serve:
Taste the tuna salad, adjust the lemon and salt, and serve on bread, in lettuce cups, or stuffed into an avocado.
Tips
Drain the tuna thoroughly so the salad isn't watery. Solid white albacore gives the meatiest texture, while chunk light tuna is milder and more budget-friendly. For a tuna melt, pile the tuna salad on bread, top with cheddar, and broil for 2 to 3 minutes.
Storage
Store tuna salad in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Don't freeze it.
Serving suggestions
Serve tuna salad as a sandwich on toasted bread, in a tuna melt, with crackers, in lettuce wraps, or on top of a green salad.
